Important: The correct spelling is forty, not fourty.

How to Form Numbers from 21 to 99

After learning the tens, you can easily form most numbers by combining the tens and the smaller number.

21 → twenty-one

32 → thirty-two

45 → forty-five

57 → fifty-seven

68 → sixty-eight

74 → seventy-four

86 → eighty-six

99 → ninety-nine

When writing numbers such as 21–99, use a hyphen (-) between the two parts.

I am 25 years old.

She is 18 years old.

Prices

The book is $10.

This shirt costs twenty dollars.

Quantity

I have three books.

There are twenty students in the class.

Phone numbers

My phone number ends in five-two-zero.

Addresses

Pronunciation Tip

Pay special attention to the difference between -teen and -ty:

13 → thirTEEN

30 → THIRty

14 → fourTEEN

40 → FORty

15 → fifTEEN

50 → FIFty

The ending -teen is used for 13–19, while the tens use -ty.
